After being so warmly welcomed by the villagers, we moved on to where the "camp" had been set up at the dam sites. Tarps had already been used on the ground, inside and outside the colorful purple and white tent. Also set there were two brick "tables" nearly flush to the ground. The were to serve as small altars for the prayer ceremony, or puja would take place. We were asked to removed our shoes and sat down on the tarps, cross-legged as best we could. As team leader I was invited to sit closest, as I would be included in the ceremony and play a minor role. I must say that with two total knee replacements, sitting cross-legged at all is a challenge, to say nothing of remaining in that position for nearly one hour!!!
